The world of online shopping seems like a magical land of deals and fast deliveries, but what’s the real deal for the people who make it all happen? If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be on the other end of the country’s leading e-commerce platform, buckle up for an inside scoop!

Meet some of the students who landed internships at Shopee, the best e-commerce employer for fresh graduates according to Prosple. They share what it’s like to be part of the company’s Apprentice Program, a training space for students to hone their skills in leading end-to-end, high-impact projects under the mentorship of Shopee’s leaders.

Nicole, the customer experience rockstar

Management Engineering student Nicole aced her internship with Shopee’s Operations team after being tasked with a super cool project: revamping Shopee’s chatbot service to make it even smarter and more helpful.

“Basically, I had to help make the chatbot understand users better,” Nicole explains. “So I had to put myself in the shoes of the users and figure out how the chatbot can be more helpful and useful,”  she shared. More than the backend work, Nicole’s project was all about understanding why things matter. “It made me realize the impact of what I create. It wasn’t just about codes, it’s about giving users a smoother experience,” Nicole says.

And as if being a Shopee Apprentice intern wasn’t already enough of a flex, she even went on to improve processes for SPX Express for her senior year capstone project, helping automate processes across hubs nationwide.

Ram, the business architect in the making

Ram, a student rocking the halls of the University of Pennsylvania, decided to take his summer vacation to the next level with an internship at Shopee, where he got to lead projects himself. “Most internships do not give you the big tasks. This program actually lets you be in charge,” Ram exclaimed.

As a Corporate Affairs intern, Ram got to sharpen his business skills by tackling real-world problems. He built project plans to solve company challenges, a skill he says is a total game-changer. “This is something you can use in any job, no matter what you do,” Ram shared as he emphasized how the freedom to figure things out on his own boosted his confidence. “Even as an intern, I felt like I was making a real difference at Shopee!”

Ron, the future tech titan

When an intern finishes Shopee’s Apprentice Program with flying colors, they get recommended to the company’s Graduate Development Program, a supercharged training program that prepares interns to become superstar leaders.

With the recommendation, they get to skip two levels of the screening process, fast-tracking their application to the program—that’s exactly what happened to Ron, a Business Administration student who, before joining Shopee’s internship programs, already won the company’s Ultimate Case Challenge for students. Now, he gets to take a deep dive into the different business units of Shopee, learning the ins and outs of how the business works and well on his way to becoming a master of the e-commerce game.

Seeing Shopee’s leaders in action totally inspired Ron.  “They’re like superheroes of e-commerce,” he said, wanting to follow in their footsteps and make a real difference.  “It really made me look forward to carving out a career in e-commerce.”
