We love brunch so we are excited that a deli + cafe opened up their doors here at our neigboring city of Kapitolyo, one of the formidable foodie havens. The new restaurant is called Artesa Deli + Coffee, which is a Catalan word for “handcrafted”, perfectly fitting as this cafe creates some of our favorite brunch dishes and elevates it to a different level.

And now for our F.A.B. review!

(F)OOD:

The menu is simple and is reasonably priced. And the best thing is, their sandwiches are buildable which means that you can customize your sandwich just the way you like it. From add-ons such as extra beef patties, fried chicken fillets, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, bacon strips or fried egg or you can even add a little more kick by adding spice to your subs and sandwiches.

SUBS (a lengthy bread or roll split lengthwise and filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and other topping)

Cubano

This is one of the cafe’s best-selling sandwiches, this sandwich has ham, pulled pork topped with pickled cucumbers and cheddar cheese in a lightly buttered and pressed Cuban bread, a fairly simple white bread that is usually made in long, baguette-like loaves. Served with a side of fried wonton chips. I loved this for its meaty and cheesy goodness in every bite, but make sure to eat it at once.

BUNS

Chimichurri Burger100% US beef cooked medium and topped with pickled cucumbers, cheddar and mozzarella and their house-made chimichurri sauce with a side of fried wonton chips. A chimichurri sauce is made of finely chopped parsley, minced garlic, olive oil, oregano and red wine vinegar.

RICE (your choice of boneless fried chicken or U.S. Beef Patty)

Tomato Gravy Rice with Chicken

I love this dish! It is like a fusion of Japan and Latin America. Steamed rice drenched in a yummy sauce of beef drippings, tomato and spices tasted like a light curry then topped with a crispy piece of chicken katsu. The latin or mexican vibe came from the herbs and spices used in the sauce, a truly unexplainable fusion that you just gotta have to try yourself.

DESSERT

New York-style Cheesecake

Light but is definitely filling, one of our favorites in here

Chocolate Cake

A decadent slice of chocolate cake which I loved. Definitely not too sweet but will leave your cake cravings satisfied. They offer whole cakes too, you just gotta order them in advance.

Black & White, Brownie and Crack Pie

DRINKS

Iced Mocha

My order, a chocolate flavored variant of cafe latte and sprinkled with a slight sprinkle of cinnamon powder on top.

Matcha Latte

A truly flavorful and rich drink for those who love matcha.

Homemade Iced Tea

One of my go-to drinks, may be served sweetened or unsweetened.

Orange Julius and Espresso Soda

Orange Julius (front), which is a popular drink in the US and became quite known to the Philippines around 1980s because of some relatives bringing some of it home. Love the tangy but not overly acidic flavor of this drink. Espresso Soda (back), if you want to try something new and bring a little fizz to your fave morning beverage.

Artesa also believes in helping local Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) by giving them a space inside their cafe. You will be introduced to a rack full of locally-sourced fares that highlight and support different high-quality Filipino ingredients and bottled dishes like tinapa or tuyo that you can buy and enjoy at home with your friends and family members. The cafe also incorporates these in some of their dishes.

(A)MBIENCE:

The place is spacious, simple and neat with white walls and wooden floors that spell out homey vibes.

Then, the browns are cut out by patterened tiles that lead you to a rack of locally-made products at the leftside and to their white marble countertops and cake display to right. They also have a restroom so no need to worry if you drank a lot of coffee.

A totally relaxing space where you can enjoy your subs, sandwiches or even a rice dish.

(B)UTLER SERVICE:

One of the owners was there and prepared our food and explained to us the dishes. They were all nice to accomodate any requests and brought our food at the promised time.

Location: Unit 2, D Strip, Building 20, United Street, Kapitolyo, Pasig City. Open Tuesdays to Sundays from 11am to 10pm.
